On-line Directory will boost Ballymena’s Arts Groups

Over 100 local arts groups are to be promoted on the web via a new on-line Ballymena Arts Directory.

From pipe bands to drama groups, writers’ groups to dance schools, each will have their own page with details of their work, performance dates and details of how people can get involved.

The directory will also feature a short film on the local arts scene.

While the project still has to go before the next full meeting of Ballymena Borough Council for ratification next month, it was unanimously approved by the local authority’s Community Planning and Wellbeing Committee last Monday night on the proposal of Alderman Maurice Mills.

Presenting details to members, Council’s Assistant Director of Development, Leisure and Cultural Services, Bernie Candlish, said: “The Directory will serve as an invaluable tool for PR, marketing of events, marketing of the work of the groups, assist groups in development of their work and membership and also be an opportunity to promote the huge wealth of talent and work in the borough and development of the local creative industry sector.”

Members were also informed that Council will be partnered in the project by the Ballymena Arts Partnership which is a forum for local arts groups.

Mrs Candlish said that the cost to Council would be in the region of £2,000 but that this was in place within existing budgets.
