On your marks, get set...knit!

THE race to make The Big Knit 2010 the best ever has begun!

Age NI, innocent and Sainsbury’s are calling for all knitters in Northern Ireland to get out their knitting needles and wool to help meet a huge target of 50,000 miniature hats.

These little woolly hats will sit on innocent smoothie bottles in Sainsbury’s stores and for each hat-wearing bottle sold, 25p will be donated to Age NI.

Age NI is the new charity combining Age Concern NI and Help the Aged in Northern Ireland.

It hopes to raise 12,500 to support essential services to improve the quality of life for older people such as Home Support, an integrated range of services including Advice and Advocacy and the HandyVan scheme.

The race is on to get the tiny hats to Age NI by Thursday, September 30 so there’s no time to lose.

Register for The Big Knit and receive knitting patterns by contacting Dorothy McConkey on 028 9024 5729 or email [email protected]. Patterns are also available to download at www.ageni.org

To submit knitted hats, simply post them to: The Big Knit 2010, Age NI, 3 Lower Crescent, Belfast, BT7 1NR or call into the office in person with your little creations.
