One leisure centre open over festive holidays

IN order to save ratepayers money only one of Craigavon Borough Council’s leisure centres will remain open over the Cristmas week.

Traditionally, all three leisure centres close on December 24, 25 and 26, re-opening after the three day Christmas celebration.

This year only Craigavon Leisure Centre in Brownlow will open on December 27, 28 and 29.

The opening hours, which are also available on the council’s website, are: Thursday, December 27, 9am to 4pm; Friday, December 28, 9am to 4pm (early birds swim at 7.45am); Saturday, December 29, 9am to 4pm; Sunday, December 30, 2-5pm and Monday, December 31, 9am to 4pm ( early birds swim 7.45am).

“Council took this decision because over the years the number of people using each leisure centre has remained low. It makes much more sense to keep just one open and to direct the small number of people who work out over the holidays to one centre,” said a council spokesperson.

Both Cascades and Waves close from Monday, December 24, to Tuesday, January 2, re-opening at 7am and 7.30am respectively.
