One-time railway worker enjoyed football and hockey

Banbridge man Mr William Sydney Wilson died recently at Craigavon Area Hospital.

Stepfather of Maureen, Linda and the late David, Sydney was for many years employed at Banbridge Railway Station, where he was held in the highest respect.

He later worked in the UK Optical Factory in Lurgan and there made many friends. He was employed then with Armaghdown Creameries, later to become Fane Valley.

Sydney enjoyed going to football matches and Banbridge Football Club and also hockey matches.

He was also an ardent Manchester United FC supporter.

While health permitted he regularly attended Scarva Street Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by Maureen and Linda, their partners Tommy and Ronnie, nephews and nieces.

A large number of mourners attended his funeral from his home at Granville Gardens, Banbridge to the New Cemetery.

The services in the home and graveside were conducted by the Rev Colin Harris.

Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR - to whom funeral arrangements were entrusted - for The Southern Area Hospice.
