O’Neill’s encouraged to join Gathering in Tyrone

O’NEILL’S from all over Ireland are invited to join the O’Neill Clans Gathering in Tyrone on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th May.

The event will commence in Benburb, the historical home of Shane O’Neill and HQ for Gen. Eoghan Roe O’Neill during the Battle of Benburb. There will be associated visits to Armagh and the site of the Battle of the Yellow Ford, and The O Neills will be hosted by Cookstown District Council and Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council respectively, when they visit their towns and the ancient sites of Tullyhogue and The Hill of The ONeill.

Activities during the event range from talks on the history, genealogy and legends of the O’Neill clans to guided visits of important O’Neill sites, as well as more light hearted entertainment including living history re-enactments and a cultural evening of traditional storytelling, music and dance.

The 2 day event has attracted international delegates, including a large group of US O’Neill’s, who are keen to meet their Irish ancestors, develop their understanding of the history of the O’Neill clans and enjoy the craic and hospitality that this country is famous for.

We would encourage all O’Neills, and indeed all clans of Ireland, to come to the event on 23rd and 24th May, to meet your distant relatives who have been dispersed to the four corners of Ireland and the World, and to give your ancestors a hearty O’Neill and Irish welcome.

Further information can be obtained on the Association of O’Neill Clans website www.oneillclans.com and registration can be made by contacting Olive at [email protected] or by calling +44 7803625161. Early registration is recommended.
