Op Torus nets over £30k of drugs

Police in the local district have taken £30,671 worth of drugs taken off our streets, made 38 drugs related arrests and seized £76k in cash in the past three weeks as part of Operation Torus.

The figures are a combined total for the Ballymena, Ballymoney, Coleraine, Larne and Moyle policing areas.

Operation Torus was an initiative aimed at street level drug dealers and included, as supported by the local Police and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP), an education element. The ‘Drug Dealers Don’t Care, Do You?’ campaign advertisements were displayed on local billboards, buses and taxis, as well as on radio and social media over the last number of weeks.

DCI Bob Blemmings was buoyed by the success of the operation saying: “We want to see the number of people harmed by drugs reduced to zero. However, we cannot do this alone; we need the help of all the communities.”

DCI Blemmings stressed that the end of Op Torus did not mean the end to police activities against drug dealing.
