Open evening at midwifery unit

MIDWIVES at the Lagan Valley Midwifery Led Unit are holding an Open Evening on Thursday, September 27, from 5pm -8pm to show off the excellent facilities available to local mums.

Everyone is welcome to attend, and the event is likely to be of particular interest to grandparents, GPs, health visitors, play group members and students studying health and social care, as well as mums to be.

There will be stands on breastfeeding support, active birthing classes and deep relaxation for birth. Other topics on the night will be infant massage, reflexology, and physiotherapy. There will be advice on smoking cessation, family planning and pre-conceptual care, and information on the early pregnancy clinic and health visitors. In addition, the Red Cross will be running first aid sessions throughout the evening. Tea and coffee will be served.

Midwife Winifred Chambers said: “We are very proud of our five star accommodation and of the safe and homely experience we provide within a family friendly environment. Above all, we want to let people know that we continue to birth babies at Lagan Valley, which has become a popular choice for mums from Lisburn, Hillsborough, Dromara and Moira.

“However, in recent months we have also been getting women from Dromore, Banbridge, Dunmurry and West Belfast, and we would encourage people from those areas to come and see us.

“We provide all antenatal and postnatal care for women, even if they wish to deliver in a consultant led unit. Consultants hold clinics in the Midwifery Led Unit to see high risk patients.

“This makes it more convenient, saving time and travelling expenses, and ultimately providing more choice for women in the area.

“There will be lots to see on the night and a warm welcome for all,” she added.
