Open invitation to community day at Whiteabbey Methodist

Special preacher on Sunday was the Rev. Donald P. Ker, President of the Methodist Church in Ireland. Following the service, the President officially opened the halls before everybody shared in lunch together.

The opening of the halls has come after seven years of planning and fundraising, and provides the church with modern facilities for all its activities and mission.

At present, the hall is used by the Boys' and Girls' Brigades, Badminton Clubs, the AA (Abbey Group) and various other church groups.

"We hope that the new facilities will also provide a new space within the community for other groups and individuals to rent and enjoy a warm and comfortable atmosphere in which to meet," said Minister at Whiteabbey Methodist, Rev. Andrew Cunningham.

"Everybody is invited to come and join with us this Saturday, January 30, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm for an afternoon of entertainment and children's activities with light refreshments provided. The Mayor of Newtownabbey, Alderman John Scott will be in attendance to share in our celebration."

Also on Saturday, the church plans to operate a car wash during the community afternoon with all donations going towards the Haiti aid effort.

"We would ask for a minimum donation of 3 for this, to help those affected by the earthquake in Haiti," said Mr Cunningham.

And the church has 170 stackable wooden chairs that it no longer requires, which are available for free to whoever can collect them as soon as possible. The chairs may be viewed during the open afternoon by any interested parties.
