Operation Exposure relaunched

THE PSNI have appealed for the public to help them identify eight people they wish to speak to in connection with an assault and a number of separate thefts in the City in recent months.

Issuing a series of CCTV images under the re-launched ‘Operation Exposure’ the PSNI hope to enjoy the same level of success and public assistance they enjoyed with the pilot scheme which ran in the City last year.

Inspector Jon Burrows, who heads up the operation, said Exposure was “right at the business end of community policing” and was an opportunity for the public to assist the police in making communities safer.

“During the pilot, 80 per cent of all images were positively identified by police in partnership with the community. As we have seen with the 1m drugs haul in the City last year, when the public trust us with information, then we deliver - putting criminals behind bars and making the city a safer place for all,” he said.

Revamped

Inspector Burrows said the operation had been revamped following the trial run due to concerns over human rights issues which were raised by some local politicians.

“We have taken on board some concerns that were raised and we have reviewed the entire operation. We now have all the checks in place to balance the rights of victims with the rights of suspects who may appear in the paper,” he said.

Police want to speak to the people pictured in the images running alongside this article as they believe they may have information that could assist them in their investigations.
