Operation Snapper nets teen drinkers

A POLICE crack down operation on underage drinking in the G District helped retrieved over 50 items of alcohol last weekend.

Operation Snapper will continue to run throughout the summer in an effort to tackle the problem. Speaking on the operation's progress, a PSNI spokesperson said: "This should be seen as an early warning that police are committed to making sure young people are not getting mixed up with alcohol. Alcohol affects everyone differently and even one can of beer or glass of vodka can leave young males or females vulnerable. The abuse of alcohol is also associated with anti-social behaviour and criminal damage – issues the public have asked us to address. "

"We would appeal to parents to talk to your children about the real dangers associated with alcohol and take all necessary steps to ensure your kids are not getting mixed up in behaviour that could see them brought home by police officers."

G District takes in the is Foyle, Strabane, Magherafelt and Limavady areas.
