‘Operation WinterSafe’ is launched

Police in Moyle are initiating a road safety operation over the coming weeks, known as “Winter Safe”.

The operation is aimed at improving road safety for all as the dark evening close in and driving conditions become tricky.

Sergeant Lorraine Connor said: “Moyle police will engage with road users during the course of their day to day duties as part as “Winter Safe”.

“The focus will be identifying defective vehicles, curbing speeding, careless and dangerous driving as well as looking out for drink or drug driving.

“There will be no discretion offered to anyone suspected of breaking the laws of the road.

“However, police are keen to help drivers improve general vehicle maintenance.

“This means discussing issues such as the condition of tyres, brakes, lights, windscreens, washer bottles and the use of seat-belts.

“Moyle police officers will be happy to answer any vehicle and road law queries as they are out and about.”

Sergeant Connor concluded: “Speeding remains a huge issue and police cannot emphasise the importance of slowing down enough. Speed kills.

“We are asking all motorists to take the foot off the pedal and think about the consequences of dangerous driving.”
