These boots were made for walking, mum!

MOTHER and daughter, Margaret and Kerri Chapman, are dusting off their walking boots for a special charity challenge.

The duo will be joined by close friend Glynis Hughes for the exciting five-day trek along the Great Wall of China in April next year.

The local ladies are raising funds for three charities close to their hearts.

“I have a great love for working with children through my job as a Primary School teacher and this is why I will be fundraising for Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children ,” explained Kerri, who works at Millburn Primary School.

“This is a fantastic charity as it provides support for children and teenagers who are diagnosed with Cancer and also works in supporting the families of those diagnosed.

“This is going to be an exciting challenge for us all, but it’s one we are really looking forward to.

“We are training very hard for this challenge whenever we can. It will be the first time we have ever done anything quite as challenging as this, so we are really excited about it all.”

Kerri’s mum Margaret also has a very personal reason in selecting the Alzheimer’s Society as her chosen charity.

“I decided to walk the trek after the death of my mother in 2006 who had Alzheimer’s disease,” said Margaret.

“I am hoping that by raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society that more support can be provided for carers as well as allowing the Society to continue its search for a cure.”

Glynis, who is raising funds for Pretty n Pink Breast Cancer Charity, also lost someone close to her last year due to breast cancer.

This charity provides support financially and in other ways for patients and families suffering from breast cancer.

To kick start their fundraising campaign the ladies will be holding a charity Zumbathon on July 28th at Benone Tourist Complex. Everyone welcome to come along and help raise funds for three very worthwhile causes.
