For Milltown man Bobby Davis has been nominated by his local Tesco store in Ballymoney as a Local Community Hero - and he has won the title outright for the whole of Northern Ireland.

All Tesco stores run a monthly competition to recognise and reward local community heroes and Bobby’s sterling work in collecting for a huge range of charities in the town brought him to the attention of Ballymoney Tesco Community Champion, Jackie Brogan.

“Bobby is a fantatic fundraiser for a whole range of charities and he regularly does collections here in store for them,” said Jackie.

“He is also a great supporter of us here in the store in our fundraisers for Diabetes UK so that’s why I decided to nominate him for this award and I’m delighted that he has won the overall award for Northern Ireland.”

Widower Bobby said he “couldn’t believe it” when Jackie told him that he had won the NI award, receiving a crystal trophy and £100 of Tesco vouchers.

“I just help out anyone who asks me, I collect for any charity. I collect for Laurel House, Anrtim Area Hospital, Poppy Appeal, Macmillan Cancer, Chest Heart and Stroke Association and Cancer Research UK.

“I have been collecting for the last 12 years or so since my wife died - sure it beats sitting in the house.”

Congratulations, Bobby!
