Appalled by death of dogs

WHAT an appalling story in last week’s Star about the dogs put to death by the council.

The decision appears to have been taken hastily. Was there a proper investigation or enough concern for the owner or her beloved pets?

It raises a number of questions that need answered. Did the woman feel pressurised into signing a destruction order? Was it proper for her to be led to believe the dogs would be destroyed anyway even if she challenged the decision?

Determining whether a dog is a pit bull terrier is a very grey area, as any expert will confirm. Was the proper procedure carried out to ascertain the breed of the mother and her pups? And why was there such a rush to take action? Is there not a specified minimum ‘stand off’ period to allow for a change of heart and a chance to fight the decision and, if not, why not?
