Are ferry fares fair?

The cost of a return fare from Larne to Cairnryan for a car and four passengers, including the driver, on P&O Ferries is now £323. The cost of a return from Dover to Calais (of similar duration) on P&O Ferries is £78 for a car/minibus with up to eight passengers.

With the demise of manufacturing industry in Northern Ireland, we are more dependant on tourism to create wealth in our country.

The fares, plus the price of petrol, must deter visitors from the mainland.

Perhaps our politicians need to be asking P&O how they can justify a greater than four times discrepancy in fares between these two routes?
