Ballyclare Barnardo’s shop seeks winter stock

Actor Sylvester McCoy has taken time out of his busy schedule from filming the third Hobbit film to support the launch of Barnardo’s NI Great Winter Stock Appeal.

The former Dr Who is encouraging people in Ballyclare to have a spring clear out of their winter items and to donate them to their local Barnardo’s shop.

Raiding his own celebrity collection, Sylvester has donated suitcases full of winter clothes including rare Dr Who and Hobbit memorabilia. The items will be auctioned on Barnardo’s website and include; two distinctive knitted question mark jerseys (signed), a woollen question mark scarf (signed), a cap worn on the set of the Hobbit and a toy hedgehog, given to Sylvester whilst working on the Hobbit.

Calling on the public to support the appeal and clear out their cupboards of pre-loved winter woollies to the Ballyclare shop on Main Street, Scottish born Sylvester said: “I was happy to take the time to get involved in this important appeal for Barnardo’s. They’re asking for donations of winter coats, woollies and accessories which people no longer need now that spring is finally here. Donating winter clothes means Barnardo’s shops will have the stock they need for the winter months, so it’s the perfect time to clear out those items you no longer need!”

Brenda Kernoghan, Manager of Barnardo’s Ballyclare shop said: “Our shop is in need of quality autumn/winter donations. It’s important that we gather as much winter stock as possible throughout the warm months in order to keep up with customer demand when the colder weather hits again. We want to have a bumper winter season in the shops this year, allowing us to support some of the most vulnerable children across Northern Ireland.”
