Thousands of images were entered into this year’s competition by professional, semi-professional and serious amateur photographers from across the globe. But the judges were won over by Bill’s striking, space-inspired black and white shot of the interior of the Victoria Square shopping complex in Belfast.

The 60-year-old retired civil servant’s prize-winning picture earned him a trophy and an Epson Pro printer worth £1,400.

Bill, who was accompanied at The Societies’ glitzy awards dinner in London by his wife Alison, said he was “proud and honoured” to win the award for the second time.
