Busy schedule for Glens Community

A BUSY schedule of events are planned for the Glens Community Association over the course of this month for people from the town centre area of Limavady.

Tina McCloskey from the community organisation said: “We have a lot of things going on this month so if anyone is interested feel free to call into the centre during the week or give me a call.”

Among the many events and projects scheduled to take place this month are activities for both young people and old people, projects for keeping fit, cooking well, learning skills, raising issues and seeking advice.

A youth club runs every Monday for people aged 12 and above, with new programmes such as ‘Bout’Ye and Choices. The Youth Club takes place from 7pm until 9pm every Monday evening.

An essential skills course is running, free of charge, with accredited courses commencing this month. Participants will learn English, Numeracy and IT skills.

A ‘Fly Tying for Beginners’ course is also going to be held at the Community House, running from 7pm to 9pm but will not commence until October.

Swimming lessons for children are also beginning this month, but are on a ‘first-come-first-serve’ basis and places are limited.

A project designed to encourage exercise and crafts begins this Monday (September 10) and takes place at 10am under the heading ‘Young at Heart’. This project is for ladies over the age of 50.

Basic cooking skills will be taught during the ‘Cook it for young people’ classes free of charge.

The Junior Youth Club, for those aged over seven, takes place every Wednesday from 6.30 to 8pm at a cost of 50 pence per night and will begin this day week (Wednesday, September 12).

A women’s mental health programme will be held, which is a six week course on stress management and other mental health issues for women.

Free swimming sessions for families will also be available from the middle of the month.

A parent and toddler group, for children aged up to four-years-old will begin on Tuesday, September 11 and takes place from 10.30am to 12.30pm at a cost of £1 per person.

Finally, a police surgery will be available every Tuesday from 11am to 12noon and an LCDI Advice surgery will also be held from 10am to 12noon every Tuesday. Private and confidential help will be available to all those people who come along.
