Cake was one ‘step too far’

One hopes that Christians in public office in Newtownabbey and indeed all the churches in our borough will raise their voices in support at this time. Martin Luther at the glorious Reformation declared ‘My conscience is captive to the Word of God.’ I have no doubt that Ashers seeks to be fair to whoever comes into its stores and ensure they are warmly served.

This however was a step too far because clearly it was being asked to endorse a political agenda with a certain slogan.

John Calvin, another reformer, also said that ‘a good conscience is the inseparable attendant of faith’

What our citizens need to learn fully about equality is that ‘All have sinned and come short of the glory of God’ Romans 3 v23.
