The event at Glengormley Sportsbowl, officially opened by Mayor Thomas Hogg, was the latest in a long-running series of fundraising initiatives which have helped the group raise more than £321,000 for the charity since 1986.

David Magill, group chairman, said: “It’s great to know you are supporting a local charity and the Glengormley Fundraising Support Group thank everyone who has generously supported our fundraising events. We’re your local charity for the care and prevention of chest, heart and stroke illnesses. The charity could not do our work in this local community, caring for people and families affected by these conditions and promoting better health, without this incredible local support.”

Linda Culbert, group treasurer, added: “I would like to thank members for all their fundraising efforts. The money raised has been used to support services such as cardiac services, stroke and respiratory groups.”

A spokesperson for NI Chest Heart and Stroke praised the local volunteers for their fundraising over the past 28 years, describing the amount of money they have collected for the charity as “incredible.”
