Child safety fears continue

AROUND 1,000 Bovally residents remain concerned that a proposed housing development will deprive children of a safe play area.

This is according to Gareth Dallas, a spokesperson for around 1,000 signatories to a petition calling for an open space to be set aside as a safe area for children to play away from traffic and other dangers. A campaign has been ongoing for some time opposed to plans to build over 100 houses near Petrie Place, on land which had once been set aside as ‘open space’. After meeting with the Environment Minister, Mr Dallas accepts there is little legal recourse available to residents and that they are now reliant on the “good nature” of the developers. He rejected a recent short-term proposal by developers to lease a small portion of land to Limavady Council as inadequate and called for a permanent solution.
