The intergenerational project, which was organised in conjunction with the Breakaways older people’s group, commenced in October 2014 and ran over a three month period.

More than 100 children from local primary schools and Newtownabbey Community High School collaborated with members of Inniscoole Day Centre to produce the individual pieces of mosaic art.

Following the installation of the pieces at the Coole Garden, Mayor Thomas Hogg commented: “The mosaic ornaments are very eyecatching and add colour to the sensory garden. It is really important for projects such as this one to take place as it helps build partnerships between schools and the community while also providing them with an opportunity to work with different people.”

The sensory garden is situated at the back of Inniscoole Day Centre and is a tranquil place for the centre’s members to experience a stimulating journey through the senses, heightening awareness and positive learning experiences.

Members of the public can view the mosaic pieces from Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm. Visitors are required to report to the reception at Inniscoole Day Centre beforehand.
