Community network training

LIMAVADY Community Network will be offering a series of free training sessions to community groups from Wednesday, September 19.

The Network received funding from Awards for All to run a tailored programme of training specific to the needs of the community sector. The training programme is entitled ‘Community Development Made Easy’ and will be facilitated by Moore Stephens on behalf of Limavady Borough Council.

Catherine Farrimond, Community Development Officer said, “The idea of the training is to continue to support and develop the community sector and to help prepare for the Review of Public Administration, (RPA). Extensive consultation took place with the community groups in Limavady and the training has been developed specifically with the community sector and their needs in mind.

“I am looking forward to the training and I would like to extend my thanks to Awards for All for awarding the funding.”

“There is a great need to consolidate work within the Borough and for groups to work collectively; the Network will work towards this goal over the next year. This training will be totally interactive and participative and is a first phase towards an OCN in Community Participation. I feel that a future accredited course would be of great benefit to the groups in the Borough,” Catherine concluded.

Community Development training takes place on Wednesday, September 19 at Magilligan Community Association. Working Together training takes place on Wednesday, September 26 at Roe Valley Residents Association. Planning training takes place on Wednesday, October 3 at Dromboughil Community Association. Finance training takes place on Wednesday, October 10 at Gortnahey Community Association. Funding Applications training takes place on Wednesday, October 17 at Loughview House, Ballykelly

At the launch, Camille McDermott from Moore Stephens set the scene for groups who will be participating in the training. Camille said: “I am delighted to be working with Catherine and the community groups in Limavady and have no doubt that the training programme will prove to be successful. It is excellent for Limavady Borough Council to be thinking ahead in preparing the community sector for the future. The Network is the perfect vehicle to drive change and collaboration.”
