Community worked hard for new centre

I AM writing in response to a recent article in the Ulster Star about Derriaghy School turning into a Community Centre.

First of all, may I say on behalf of the Community Association, we are delighted that Milltown is getting, at least, some good news at last. However, I have to say, reading the article, that I am disappointed that Jonathan Craig did not mention the Community Association and the work they have put in behind the scenes.

Indeed, neither did he mention his Party colleagues, Councillors Margaret Tolerton and Thomas Beckett, nor Pat Bowen of Supporting Communities, Mark Black from Seymour Hill, Owen Brady from NIHE and Gina McDonald of SEELB, to name but a few.

The council staff, as he has put it, and the people above have been working very hard behind the scenes and the Committee members are taking courses with the SEELB as there is going to be a youth provision in the building as well.

We were to have a press release in a week or so, outlining this but because of Jonathan Craig’s statement, we do not know if this will now go ahead.

We just wanted to take this opportunity to put what we have been doing, as Jonathan Craig’s view is very vague.
