Currency appeal to Carrick residents

Age NI is urging residents to donate spare foreign or out-of-date currency to support people in later life.

Linda Parker, Donor manager with the charity, said: “We’ve launched our annual Foreign Currency Appeal and we’re asking holidaymakers returning from Easter break to help us turn any unwanted foreign or out-of-circulation currency into much needed cash to support our work helping older people in need.’

“According to the Irish Central Bank, there’s over €200 million in old Irish Punts still out there. Combine this with £1.6 billion travel money left over from holidaymakers each year and thrown in the back of a drawer, and that’s a lot of cash lying around that Age NI could put to good use! We can provide local shops or businesses with collection boxes making it even easier for anyone wishing to donate.”
