‘Cut speed limit to improve road safety’

South Antrim MLA Danny Kinahan has welcomed a commitment from the Department for Regional Development that it is to look into the possibility of installing speed reduction measures on Park Road, Mallusk.

It’s understood an assessment of traffic flows and road safety will be carried out by TransportNI officials, in conjunction with the PSNI.

“This road is used as a shortcut into Mallusk and is simply not suitable for large vehicles or high speeds,” the Ulster Unionist Party general election candidate commented.

“Running along the edge of a residential area and past the City of Belfast Playing Fields, it is simply too dangerous to keep it subject to current speed limits.

“The speed limit should be lowered over the length of the road to reflect the surroundings, making it safer for residents and children using the playing fields.”
