Deafening silence in response to pay row

IN complimenting Councillor Brian Heading in relation to the irresponsible statements from his Party Leader on a pay and Pension increase for MLA’s, it would in fairness to Dr. McDonnell be time to say, due to the deafening silence with exception of the MLA Michael Nesbitt and Ulster Unionist Councillor Ronnie Crawford, that the other parties would appear tobe in favour of what Dr. McDonnell stated.

It is a fact that despite the Social Democratic and Labour name, a vast element - and the same can be said of the other parties - have a considerable strain of Conservatism running through them and no doubt this will be evident in the coming months and years.

Some five years ago, when I completed my political degree, I stated Fianna Fail conservative policy would destroy the Republic’s economy, need I say more.

I trust that following Dr. McDonnell’s apology the SDLP will adhere to their declared policy.
