Drivers please put those phones down

I have noticed more and more people holding their mobiles when driving and it is beyond me why people still haven’t got the message on how dangerous this is.

The other day I spotted a lorry driver turning a corner with a mobile at his ear and trying to manouvere the huge vehicle. He could easily have lost control and caused a crash. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

With various devices on the markets which enable hands free driving why are some people still taking the risk? It only takes a split second for an accident to happen. People maybe think it ‘won’t happen to me’ and take a chance by holding their phone but I’m sure that’s what many drivers who have ended up in court for crashing into someone or worse, thought too.

The advertisements on the televison at the moment warning people about the dangers of taking alcohol, drugs, using their phones and speeding, are hard hitting and more people need to take notice.

People just looking at their phones for messages need to stop this too. It’s just as bad as you aren’t paying full attention to the road.

It’s so easy to be tempted to check for a message and try to reply but will it really have been worth it when you knock someone down all because you were busy replying to a message? I’m sure the person at the other end can wait until you get a chance to reply. If you are that anxious to speak to them at least pull over and make your call or send your text when it’s safe to do so.
