Fails to convince me

WHAT a very peculiar letter last week criticising Ronnie Crawford for suggesting councillors who wanted to pay £150 a head for 20 seats at the Lord Taverners Ball should pay themselves.

We’re told we’re paying for ‘stakeholders and sponsors’ rather than councillors to attend. How does that make it better? Why would councillors think it was all right to put up my rates so they can then use that money to support charities of their choosing? I support all sorts of charities and I would be able to do a little bit more if I didn’t face such a high rates demand.

Then the claim: ‘I understand that Lisburn wants to support this Ball as it may be in a position to host such an event in the next fews years. There is a belief that as a result, this will bring large businesses and a number of high profile visitors to Lisburn City.’ Who on earth would think taking 20 seats at a charity event, or even hosting it, would bring large businesses to Lisburn?

Sometimes people take wrong decisions. They should graciously admit it and move on. Coming up with nonsensical explanations only makes people angrier and keeps the story running.
