At Tesco Newtownabbey on December 3, firefighters from Glengormley and Whitla Street stations completed a trolley dash in just two-and-a-half minutes, collecting dozens of items for donation to the FareShare foodbank appeal.

Children from St MacNissi’s Primary School also helped out with the in-store collection.

On Saturday, December 5, Mayor Thomas Hogg called into Tesco Northcott to help with the pre-Christmas food collection. He spent some time talking to customers to thank them for their generosity in helping the Trussell Trust-backed Newtownabbey Foodbank to ensure that those in need in the local community have a happy Christmas.

Mina McKinney, Project Manager said: “Last year Newtownabbey Foodbank distributed 320 Christmas food hampers to families in Newtownabbey who were struggling to put food on the table. We hope to be able to do this again with the support of the generous people of Newtownabbey to whom we are extremely grateful.”
