Folk Festival success at Keady Clachan

A great night was had by all in the newly formed Keady Clachan as part of the Roe Valley Folk Festival on Saturday, October 20, 2012.

The Keady Clachan is a traditional stone cottage set on the side of the Keady Mountain. It overlooks a stunning panoramic view of the Roe Valley, Sperrins, Lough Foyle and Donegal. The Clachan will host various live music sessions performed by local, national and international artists and much, much more.
Local organic farmer Micky Mullan and his wife Joan are the couple behind the Keady Clachan, which is situated on Ringsend Road.
On Saturday night (October 20) the small and intimate venue was host to an eclectic mix of invited guests, a few welcome passersby, some visiting musicians, as well as some very special local musicians, namely the Village Shambles.
Micky said: “There were few who didn’t give some sort of turn, from storytelling to some very special solo singing. The Clachan was happy to provide a wee bite to eat and in return received plenty of art and culture.
“We at the Clachan plan to promote and encourage a wide and extensive range of workshops and collaborations from dry stone walling to much more gentle arts. We are currently working on a programme of permaculture, which for the uninitiated is the Rolls Royce Cadillac version of organic growing.
“It sounds like a lot but we should realise many of the experts are surprisingly local.
“However the immediate priority is to give a heartfelt thanks to all who attended on Saturday night, audience and entertainers alike. From both myself and Joan, thank you all so very much.”
