A statement issued by Forum chairperson Valerie Jenkins and secretary Norman Ramsay said that traffic congestion in the vicinity of local schools, particularly at peak times, is a significant problem.

“We receive numerous complaints with regard to parents parking outside school entrances whilst dropping off their children, which in turn causes severe traffic congestion in these areas at peak times,” the statement said.

“To try and alleviate this problem, we would respectfully ask that:

• Parents park a short and safe distance away from the entrance and walk children into school.

• Walk their children to school if possible.

• Leave in ample time to complete the school run.

• Make use of the school bus facility if applicable.

“The safety of children is paramount and should be uppermost in our thoughts. Nevertheless, consideration should also be shown to other road users.”
