Council will be hosting a day of family entertainment, including an Italian market and music in High Street and Market Place, along with cycling activities for younger people in Marine Gardens. There will also be a carnival atmosphere provided by the race ‘caravane’ which will be travelling the route ahead of the racers.

According to council, the town will be decorated in pink with traders encouraged to take part in a window competition and offer Italian themed menus. There will also be an interactive cycling exhibition in the Civic Centre.

“To support the race we are encouraging everyone to wear pink and dig out your bicycle to join in the fun but, most of all, to take the opportunity to line the route in warm support of these extraordinary athletes as they near the end of their incredible 218Km (135 mile) journey,” a council statement added.
