Help is at hand with new Alpha Course

I was listening to The Stephen Nolan show on Radio Ulster this week and the topic of overeating (which Stephen frequently addresses) was being debated, in particular the suggestion that junk food should be taxed.

A Belfast caller said “I hate myself when I walk into a chippy.” This statement shocked me and as a Christian I felt compelled to write.

I firmly believe that the reason why so many people struggle with different addictions is that they have not discovered their true purpose in life. In today’s society people focus on their physical needs and try to address their emotional and spiritual needs in physical ways. It says in the Bible: “Man looks on the outside and God looks on the heart.”

No junk tax, doctor, health guru, celebrity or fitness instructor can change how we are in the inside. I think that the one who really knows how we are on the inside is God, and our real problem is that we don’t know Him.

An Alpha Course, which helps to answer why we need God, will begin on Tuesday 24th January 2012 in Derryvolgie Church of Ireland, Belsize Road, Lisburn. Everyone is welcome.

Happy Christmas
