YEAR 12 students from Limavady High School visited the Springtown Campus of the North West Regional College recently to check out the different Training for Success and Apprenticeship courses which are offered there.

Accompanied by Mrs Calvin, the group were able to speak with the lecturers who deliver welding and fabrication, motor vehicle body repair and plumbing, none of which are catered for in the Limavady campus on Greystone Road. Pupils learned how an apprenticeship is an excellent way to get practical experience in a trade with the added bonus of earning while learning.

In addition, it was emphasised that an apprenticeship is an equally valuable alternative route to straight academic study as a means to progress in a given career area especially for those with a more practical or vocational learning style. The opportunities for employment and competitive salaries, in addition to the possibility of setting up your own business, were highlighted. In all this was a useful visit for the pupils who attended.
