Historian seeks information on Ballycraigy House

Andy Glenfield, who runs a website called ‘Second World War in Northern Ireland’, is seeking information that could help him locate Ballycraigy House, which he believes is – or once was – in the Larne area.

He explained: “My reason for wanting to find Ballycraigy is because I have a keen interest in the involvement of Northern Ireland during the Second World War and have learned that the 1st Belgian Army Corps were being trained in Northern Ireland during 1945 with the intention to returning to Belgium as soon as possible.

“The Belgian soldiers were based throughout the South Antrim area with a headquarters at Drumadarragh House, the 1st infantry battalion at Ballycraigy, a machine gun company at Ballyclare and a field ambulance unit at Doagh.

“Units were also at Whitehead and Ballycarry as well as Larne.

“Any information I can receive regarding the precise location where these soldiers were based would very much appreciated.

“I will research various locations throughout Northern Ireland which had a direct connection with the Second World War and then visit and photograph what remains before putting the photographs and information onto my website www.ww2ni.webs.com, which everyone is welcome to visit,” he concluded.
