Historical society unveil engaging schedule

Limavady Historical and Cultural Society, a community organisation who aim to break down sectarian barriers through education, have announed a fascinating summer and autumn programme.

Kicking off the programme will be an insightful lecture by local teacher and historian George Dallas in the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre this evening. The topic for this evening’s lecture will be Enniskillen. The talk begins at 8pm. As a follow up, the group will visit Enniskillen Castle later in the month (Friday, August 23, 2013). The coach will leave from the Ulsterbus depot in Limavady at 9.30am. Admission to Mr Dallas’ lecture is free, although there will be a cover charge of £5 for anyone wishing to take travel with the group for the follow up visit to Enniskillen.

In September, speakers from the Follies Trust - a charitable group who formed in 2006 in County Armagh with the aim of celebrating and preserving ‘the motley collection of unusual buildings’ scattered throughout Ulster. Follies are generally thought of as buildings and architechtural structures which are either ‘a foolish monument to greatness, or a great monument to foolishness’. Members of the Follies Trust will be speaking on Wednesday, September 11 at the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre, as well as other interested parties, about the possible refurbishment of the Beresford-Ash Follies at East Road Ballyquinn. Further details of this event will be made available closer to the time. Again, admission to this event will be free of charge and a light supper will be provided.
