Inadequate signs put us off Lisburn

ON 4th November, driving from the McCalls shop corner, we parked at approximately 5 pm in a car park now known to us as Smithfield Square East.

There was no visible sign indicating it was a pay and display car park. If we had known we would definitely have paid as we always do and we have never had a Penalty Charge Notice in our 103 years (between us) driving.

In our local town of Ballymena car park instruction signs are prominent and well positioned in parking areas.

A Traffic Attendant was standing across the road and would have seen us leaving our car to browse the shops. Six minutes later we were issued with a notice.

We don’t object to him doing his job but the signage in this car park is inadequate. On returning with our purchases from McCalls we found the Penalty Charge on our windscreen. Shocked we looked around and then noticed a minute Pay Point yellow sign at top of car park.

As Senior Citizens with time to enjoy our retirement we were keen to visit Lisburn and experience the shops that are advertised in the media but this incident has changed our opinion of your town/city.

Our Penalty Charge will be paid immediately but we definitely won’t return to do further business in Lisburn.
