Islandmagee WI welcome for PSNI officers

Islandmagee North WI held this month’s meeting on October 21.

President Anne Chin welcomed members.

Speakers for the evening were Tony and Andy from the PSNI Neighbourhood Team in Larne who spoke about safety in the community.

The ladies were given advice on this subject which ranged from how to deal with bogus callers to investment scams. Stickers with phone numbers were distributed and small personal alarms issue to members living alone.

The officers chose the winner of the competition based on the theme of “a safety tip”.

The winners were: first, Jackie Crabbe; second, Helen Smith.

Jackie gave the vote of thanks before business was conducted.

The winners of the ballot were: first, Jackie Crabbe; second Rubina Woodside.

The evening concluded with a rendition of “The Countrywomen’s Song”.

Carnlough WI presented cheques totalling £1,500 to special guests at the October meeting.

The ladies extended a welcome to Elizabeth Warden and her husband Alex.

Elizabeth, executive member for Ards Peninsula Area and chairperson of the international sub-committee, accepted a cheque for £750 on behalf of ACWW.

Danny Beaven, honorary chairman, of Glens Lifeboat Guild, was presented with a cheque for £750 for the RNLI.

The guest speaker was Ian Scroggy who gave a talk on the history of Carnlough from 1870.

The winner of the local postcard competition was Ethel Simpson; second, Moira McAllister; third, Margaret McGalliard.
