The 18-mile walk, on Saturday, June 22, takes in counties Londonderry and Antrim, starting in colourful Coleraine and ending at beautiful Ballycastle on the coast.

Highlights include fantastic mountains and green scenery and the Causeway Coast – all the while fundraisers will be fighting the deadly disease.

It marks the 10th anniversary of the passing of popular 18-year-old Michael Clarke, of Derry, to meningitis, just before getting his A Level results.

He had his life ahead of him and his results were enough to see him train as a teacher, so now his family and friends are keen to protect everyone else from the awful disease.

Meningitis can strike within hours and is notoriously difficult to detect, often presenting only flu-like symptoms.

This is why Meningitis UK’s primary focus is to find vaccines and other preventative measure to eradicate the disease to protect future generations.
