Latest edition of Winding Roe culturalmagazine is out now

IT’S that time of year and the ‘Winding Roe’ magazine is once again in the shops.

The community, historical and cultural magazine, which covers the greater Dungiven area, is filled with a collection of articles, historical accounts and poems.

There is a wide variety of stories to suit all ages ranging from Mary Wack’s story on Limavady’s Captain McCausland and Benjamin Franklin through to Aidan Hegarty’s feature on local singing sensation, Cara Dillon. Eugene McElhinney has once more been off on his travels and gives an account of his visit to Red Square and beyond. There are reminiscents of bygone Dungiven and Feeny as well as Seamus Hassons link of RMS Titanic to Dungiven during the centennial commemorations of its ill fated maiden voyage. Aidan Farren writes of the Osborne family of Ballyhargan whilst Michael Higgins story of past emigration to the United States rings true once more today.

There is a poetry corner, a number of old pictures relevant to the area as well as four coloured pictures of beauty spots and places of interest in the district, a Journal of the year’s events and a roundup of GAA sports in the 2012 edition of the Winding Roe.
