Mayor praised for speaking out

I WAS interested to see the SDLP leader Alasdair McDonnell withdrew his comments about giving MLAs a pay rise after his own deputy reminded him that was against party policy.

But I think a lot of credit must go to our own Mayor, Brian Heading, who was the first party member to speak out against his leader.

That is not an easy thing to do. He could very easily have found himself isolated as members of political parties tend to stick together rather than criticise their leader.

I don’t necessarily agree with Mr Heading’s political views, but I do respect someone who has the courage to make a stand for their convictions.

So well done to Mr Heading and thank you for restoring just a little of my faith in politicians.
