MEP welcomes approval for £3.9m Valley Park project

The Times revealed last week how Newtownabbey Borough Council has been given the green light for its ambitious £3.9million plan to transform the park through the creation of new state-of-the-art sports facilities, a civic linear park and an adventure play park.

Work on the Valley Park Shared Space Project is due to be completed by July 2015.

Mr Nicholson welcomed the reallocation of EU funding, which had been set aside for the controversial Maze Peace Centre project, to local schemes such as the Valley Park redevelopment.

“I want to thank my local Ulster Unionist colleagues, the council officials and everyone who has been involved in driving this project forward. Once final approval is granted by the relevant accountable department - which in this case is DSD - I look forward to seeing the new facilities quickly develop and being enjoyed by the community,” he said.

Macedon Councillor John Scott added: “I look forward to seeing these plans become a reality. Once completed, this project will be a great asset to everyone in the local community. The sports facilities and shared space will deliver a host of benefits for years to come, acting as a positive focal point for young and old alike.”
