Last month Mrs Reid celebrated her 90th birthday and encouraged guests at her party, held at Rathmore Manor in Knockview, to donate to the Martin Trust in lieu of gifts. Her fundraising efforts where supported by her grandson, Peter Shepherd, who through his role as Worshipful Master of Lodge 637 selected the Martin Residential Trust as his chosen charity for the year and raised funds through a charity golf day held at Ballyclare Golf Club.

The Martin Trust provides long-term accommodation and respite care for people with profound learning disabilities and was home to Millie’s daughter Lesley until her passing in 2013.

“It was great that as a family we could combine our fundraising efforts,” Peter said. “It’s great to see the fantastic work that goes on at the Trust and I want to pay tribute to all of the staff for their efforts.”
