Minister praised for making decisions

THERE’S nothing like the cold wind of recession to blow away the cobwebs surrounding our planning system.

Clearly the prospect of jobs and investment has given the planning service the hurry up to clear the backlog of applications which stretches back years.

Last week’s news that the hotel on the Hillsborough Road and the crematorium in Moira have both been approved is to be applauded - not because everyone necessarily agrees with them, but because someone is finally making some decisions.

So well done to Alex Attwood. Governing is about making decisions he at least seem to have grasped the nettle.

It’s a pity similar ministers hadn’t been in charge years ago. We might now have the John Lewis development and thousands of jobs building a national stadium and all that would have come with it at the Maze.
