Mossley pupils jet off to London

Thirty pupils from Miss Sara Stewart’s P6 class, accompanied by five adults, jetted off from Belfast City Airport to Heathrow on June 16 courtesy of Aer Lingus.

The special day trip was first prize in the Aer Lingus Art for Schools competition 2014, which was won by Mossley Primary pupil Lewis Jackson.

During their unforgettable trip to the capital, the pupils got to go on the London Eye and visit the Sea Life London Aquarium.

“The children experienced magnificent views from the London Eye, followed by a cinematic 4D experience based on the sights of London. They were then welcomed to the Sea Life Aquarium, where they observed, touched and were educated on a range of sea life from across the world,” Miss Stewart said.

Pupils from more than 100 schools across the province entered the annual competition, run in conjunction with Ni4Kids and Belfast City Airport, to design a decal for an Aer Lingus aeroplane based on Northern Ireland’s tourism. But it was Lewis’ colourful design that left a lasting impression on the judges.

His prize-winning design will be made into a decal that will be placed on one of the aircraft that flies between Belfast City and London.

Miss Stewart said that Lewis was “ecstatic” when he was announced as the winner of this year’s competition.

“The day was thoroughly enjoyed by the P6 class and was certainly a highlight of their school year,” she added. “Congratulations must once again go to Lewis for his creative design.”
