New uniforms dedicated

KILMORE Flute Band had their new uniforms dedicated by the Rector of Shankill Parish Church, Rev Geoff Wilson, at the recent Orange Service held in Kilmore.

The band have been marching since 1903 when minutes were discovered recently in which they were mentioned, but they are believed to have been formed some time in the late 1800s. Their motto is ‘Dedication and commitment equals success’.

The band have adopted a more professional approach and are now learning regimental marches and melody jigs which include ‘Aces High’, ‘Light of Foot’, ‘Dolly’s Brae’ and ‘Hearts of Oak’ to name but a few.

First Flute, Second Flute and F-Flute have added to the melody while the recent addition of a piccolo has certainly made a big difference when playing proper marching music.

The band are currently practising every Wednesday evening at 8pm and would welcome new members who would enjoy playing music, taking part in drill and all that makes a marching band successful.

Potential bass drummers, side drummers and fluters would be very welcome while the position of drum major has still to be filled as the band builds up their numbers again.

If interested why not come along any Wednesday to practice or contact any member for further information.
