Nursery pupils create colourful art

Two local nursery schools which joined together to take part in a Good Relations public art project have unveiled their colourful creations.

Ashgrove Nursery and Naiscoil Eanna in Glengormley came together for the first time to undertake the project, and they hope that their artistic endeavours will be the start of an ongoing relationship for future programmes.

Talented young artists from both schools unveiled their colourful artworks to Deputy Mayor, Alderman Dineen Walker.

The commissioned artist, Angela Ginn, worked with groups of pupils from both schools to produce a number of colourful public art installations including multi-coloured fence art, painted murals, pebble creatures for the school gardens and a mosaic entrance feature for each school.

Speaking during a visit to Ashgrove Nursery School to meet pupils who took part in the project, Alderman Walker commented: “The work that is on display is fantastic and is a great example of the two classes coming together as a team. The children have taken great pride in their efforts and are delighted that their work is on show for all to see.

“This was the first Good Relations public art programme that both schools participated in and they are excited to move forward and work together again. Projects like this are fundamental in helping build positive relations in our community.”

The project was supported by Newtownabbey Council’s Good Relations Programme, which receives support from the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister.
