Objections aim to end Loyal Order parades

HAVING read letters from Observer and Concerned over the last few weeks, as a member of the Loyal Orders I fully concur with Concerned and feel Observer is out of touch with reality and the thinking of not only me, but the majority of law abiding citizens of Northern Ireland who cherish their civil and religious liberty.

While respecting Observer for putting forward his point of view sadly, in my opinion, along with others he is completely out of touch with what’s taking place in relation to the Loyal Orders celebrating their cultural, civil and religious liberty.

His reference to Drumcree shows Observer is missing the entire plan - that is to ensure further restriction on the orders’ right to celebrate their culture.

Does Observer really believe Drumcree, and now all the other routes that have followed, happened by accident. Indeed the reference to troublemakers using Drumcree to damage the Institution,is, I believe, an insult to the Order.

It is obvious what’s taking place and not for the first time, Observer should take on board what Edward Carson said when he visited Banbridge in 1913 -”No Body of men has been more misrepresented and nothing was more untrue constantly made, that the Orange Order was kept alive for the purpose of propagating bigotry and resentment from those who differed from Orangemen in religion”.

It would be sacrilege if all we hold dear was gradually eroded through political expediency. Even Observer is bound to see that during the past number of years it has been one way traffic in favour of the Republican cause.

Pledges by certain politicians have been quietly abandoned and we have witnessed the presence of continual opposition which I believe is unambiguously committed to restricting, if not ending, Loyal Order parades.

After all, not so along ago the calls wre for `No Sinn Fein in Government’ and `No Shrine at the Maze’.

No Observer, all you and others have to do is acquiesce and everything will be gone.

No Surrender,
