Pakistan not allowing ‘shrine’ to remain

WHILST the DUP led executive is supporting a spend in excess of £18 million for a so called Conflict Resolution Centre to complement the retention of the Maze H blocks at the Maze, it’s interesting to note what happening in not to dissimilar circumstances within Pakistan.

For Pakistan is demolishing the compound where US forces killed Osama Bin Laden, in the north-western city of Abbottabad. They recognise that the three storey building would have the potential to be turned into a shrine by unrepentant al-Qaeda supporters.

It’s somewhat ironic, sickening and abhorrent that the DUP, working with Sinn Fein, are retaining the very H blocks where the IRA initiated a mass escape, where Billy Wright was murdered and where 10 republican hunger strikes died.

At best this is a sop to terrorism but realistically, as Nigel Dodds pointed out, it’s a Shrine to terrorists no matter what way it’s dressed up.

Sad and also true!
